Journals of Japanese Studies

The EAJS does not publish its own academic journal but it encourages its members to submit manuscripts to following high quality academic journals in the field of Japanese Studies. These journals carefully edit manuscripts by native and non-native speakers of English.

  • Monumenta Nipponica
This peer-reviewed quarterly journal first published in 1938 is one of the oldest journals in the field of Japanese Studies and has a strong reputation in the fields of Japanese culture and history.
  • Japan Forum
This peer-reviewed journal established in 1982 is published three times a year. It accepts contributions from across the social sciences and the humanities, and it is most well-known for the articles it has published on modern Japan.

  • Social Science Japan Journal
This peer-reviewed biannual English-language journal, which was founded in 1998, publishes on social science issues related to modern Japan, including comparative work. Disciplines in the social sciences represented in the journal include anthropology, economics, geography, history, law, political science, and sociology. The journal is published together with Oxford University Press.
